President Donald Trump announced Saturday night that the United States bombed three sites in Iran that are used to create nuclear weapons. Gov. Glenn Youngkin applauded the decision from Trump, while Sen. Tim Kaine criticized the action.

“We have completed our very successful attack on the three Nuclear sites in Iran, including Fordow, Natanz, and Esfahan,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “There is not another military in the World that could have done this. NOW IS THE TIME FOR PEACE!”

Youngkin, who was once cautious to embrace Trump, has become one of his biggest supporters.

“President Donald J. Trump meant what he has said over and over again: Iran must never have a nuclear weapon. Promises made, promises kept,” Youngkin wrote on social media.

Kaine called the move “idiotic.”

“The American public is overwhelmingly opposed to the U.S. waging war on Iran,” Kaine wrote on social media. “The Israeli Foreign Minister admitted yesterday that Israeli bombing had set the Iranian nuclear program back ‘at least 2 or 3 years.’ So what made Trump recklessly decide to rush and bomb today? Horrible judgment.”

Kaine said he will push for the Senate to vote on whether or not they support another war in the Middle East.

During an address to the nation at 10 p.m., Trump said Iran must make peace, or else “future attacks” will be bigger and a “lot easier.”

“If peace does not come quickly, we will go after those other targets,” Trump said.

Defense leaders are expected to give another update at 8 a.m.
