While we have no specifics, it sounds like the House of Delegates and Senate are moving closer to a budget deal with less than a month until funding runs out.

“Delegate Luke Torian, Chair, House Appropriations and his staff met with Senate Finance Appropriations staff and me for a very spirited discussion about the budget,” Senate Appropriations Committee Louise Lucas, D-Portsmouth, said in a social media post Tuesday afternoon.

“The good news is that we’re getting close to an agreement on how to pay for core services,” Lucas continued. “We will have a budget before June 30th and you can take that to the bank!”

Del. Luke Torian, D-Prince William, echoed that sentiment in a phone interview with Virginia Scope.

“We met, we had a good discussion, and it was positive,” he said.

Funding for the state government runs out at the end of June. While there have been some close calls, there has never been a state-level government shutdown in Virginia.
