Attorney General Jay Jones filed a motion with the Court of Appeals of Virginia asking them to intervene in the Tazewell County Circuit Court ruling against Democrats’ redistricting effort.

The Tazewell judge ruled against Democrats for multiple reasons, to which Democrats immediately appealed while continuing their effort to redraw Virginia’s congressional districts.

“Because the circuit court’s order has taken immediate effect, and because the Commonwealth has the absolute right, pursuant to Rule 3:14A, to intervene in this matter, the Commonwealth requests that this motion and notice be granted on the pleading on an emergency basis without the need for a hearing,” Jones wrote in the motion.

Solicitor General Tillman J. Breckenridge and members of his staff also signed the motion.

Democrats have continued the redistricting process by passing legislation to hold a referendum in April.
