Virginia Beach Assistant Commonwealth Attorney Andrew Rice won the firehouse primary for the Republican nomination in House District 98.
Rice will face off against the Democratic nominee, Cheryl Smith.
The special election will take place in March, but this district leans Republican, with Del. Barry Knight winning it by 13 points last year.
The seat is open after Knight passed away after battling an illness.
Former Del. Tim Anderson, Ben Loyola, Pieri Burton, Michael Mauch and Zachery Taylor were also seeking the Republican nomination.
