A new poll on redistricting
The Washington Post and George Mason University’s Schar School released a new poll on redistricting Friday morning.
52 percent of likely voters said they support redrawing congressional districts, while 47 percent oppose the move.
The “yes” side’s margin is larger among registered voters, with 53 percent supporting the redraw and 44 percent opposing it.
No Debate
Former Virginia Gov. George Allen wants to debate current Gov. Abigail Spanberger on the redistricting proposal being put before voters this month. Allen invited Spanberger to three debates, which would be more than the total number of debates for all three 2025 statewide races — but Spanberger declined the invite, according to the Richmond Times-Dispatch.
A spokesperson for Spanberger told the RTD that the governor is currently focused on reviewing the legislation sent to her by the General Assembly, to which her deadline for action is approaching.
Allen responded again by sending a letter to the governor.
“While I can fully appreciate the intensity of the bill review process, having been through it myself four times, that was certainly anticipated at the time you signed the legislation that set April 21 as the date for this referendum,” Allen said in the letter. “The voters of Virginia have had even less time to become aware that a vote is even taking place, let alone time to consider the proposed significantly changed districts and both sides of this unprecedented action.”
Allen then renewed his invitation for a debate.
