Numbers in Hopewell are continuing to rise with a few new cases each day. The seven-day average for new cases each day is currently five. Hopewell has reported a total of 599 cases since the pandemic began with 49 hospitalizations and nine deaths.

The rate of new infections per a population of 100,000 is high, however, at 21.5. While Hopewell’s number is high, it is close to the average for the surrounding areas and it is well below the statewide number of 28.2

In total, Virginia reported 2,544 new cases on Tuesday. The number continues to rise each day as the temperature drops and people gather indoors.

Vaccines are expected to be available in mid-December, and will likely take weeks to become effective.
