The Virginia Department of Health (VDH) sent out a message Tuesday encouraging Virginians to receive the COVID-19 vaccine even if they have contracted the virus.

According to the VDH, unvaccinated people who have contracted COVID-19 are five times as likely to catch it again compared to vaccinated individuals.

“The bottom line,” VDH said in their statement, is that “antibody levels vary widely from one person to another after an infection. The best way to protect yourself from COVID-19 is to get vaccinated.”

Close to six million Virginians have already received the COVID-19 vaccine.
